LINQ in Action roller

It should be simple...

I have a lot of related tables in a SQL Server database. I simple would like to query a table for a specific item. If that item exists then retrieve the Identity Column and set a property (to be used to insert a new related row later). That part is fairly simple. I would like to take it a step further and if it does not exist insert a new record and then return the newly inserted record's Identity Column.
